IN OUR ELEMENT

WANDERLUST

Earth in hand,

raindrops fall like the sun.

My feet making footprints

in the golden sand that falls behind.

Mind tired, my knees meet dust.

You let me lie

and bleed into the grass for a while.

Until your bare flower whispered: Move on.

Hand in hand,

We drift like the leaves.

Skin on skin,

marvelling at our symmetry.

Together we watch the night,

as one red seed unknowingly shifts moons,

and the light from a million suns

gently returns to our earth.

FIRE ICE

I once flowed with the waters

Crashing over shore by shore

My restless spirit intertwined

with the torrents, falls and pools.

You saw yourself in me,

Reaching out to hold me down

And your touch

turned my water into bone.

You chained me down,

left me nowhere to run.

And even in those stolen moments

when I escaped,

your memory pulled me back in.

You wanted,

Needed,

forever.

But I found infinity a terrifying concept.

So I hid from your rough touch

behind hollow words.

Staying as I knew

the cold had not yet reached your heart.

gently returns to our earth.

WINDSTORM

The wind screams and the sky splits,

darkness swallowing up the stars.

It takes hold of us,

twisting round our lungs.

Breathe.

Just breathe.

We might survive

We shine as the moon

paints colours on our skin,

breaking apart with each

bone shattering breath.

And as we break,

our dreams dream of flight.

I kneel, fingers interlaced

And shout into the void,

“I am yours to tear apart”,

and the air ricochets back

carrying your voice to my heart.

You say “kiss me;

It will ruin you.”

AFTERGLOW

We had swallowed gunpowder

and together we ignite.

As we burn

a silent promise,

caught between the whispers

of our cracking flames:

"make them remember us"

let our kisses be the embers of our poetry

and our warm touch forever glow after death.

I peer into our oblivion

and I see myself

too afraid to dream of yesterday

as I lie in the ashes of a fire once bright.

I watch myself caress the scars you drew.

Skin marred with burns left by your fingertips,

the pain that demands to be felt.

I know you will hurt me

but you are love incarnate

and I am yours to devour.

I know it in the deepest knots of my heart

as well as I know that

in your eyes there is truth.
